This truly exceptional mahogany chiffonier bureau was repurposed from an old clavichord, most likely in the early 19th century. This unique transformation gave a beautiful antique a new life as a writing bureau.

The piece is made of dark, rich solid mahogany. Inside, you can still see the handwritten note letters from its time as a clavichord, linking it directly to its musical origins. We have thoroughly cleaned it and treated it for woodworm to preserve the wood.

The whole piece has been completely refinished, with the addition of gilded accents to keep in line with its original style.

It features turned legs with bold bun feet and flanking columns capped with carved capitals, adding a touch of classical detail. The cylinder-style lid lifts to reveal a fitted interior with gilded cubbyholes. The hand-carved flower handles are particularly striking.

This bureau highlights thoughtful restoration and solid craftsmanship, combining history and practicality in one piece.
